| Long Abstract: |
These guidelines were presented by the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights to the Economic and Social Council at the session on "Social and Human Rights Questions: Human Rights" in New York. The recommended principles emphasise the primacy of the human rights of trafficked persons, and the need for states to address the areas of prevention, protection and assistance, and criminalisation, punishment and redress. The guidelines relate to 11 specific areas, covering human rights, identification, research, the legal framework, law enforcement, protection and victim support, prevention, child victims, remedies, the obligations of peacekeepers and stakeholders, and regional/international cooperation. |
