| Long Abstract: |
This article reports that in its 342-page Annual Report 2003, which was distributed to MPs in Parliament yesterday, a sub-committee set up to study the problem of human trafficking found most of the girls were lured into the country with promises of jobs but ended up in vice. The report recommended that personnel in the relevant detaining agencies be provided with appropriate training so that they could respond sensitively to the needs of vulnerable women and the communities involved. It also recommended that Malaysia should study the need to sign the Palermo Protocol on combating trafficking. |
