| Long Abstract: |
The article briefly describes the sentencing to death of a Chinese woman convicted of buying and selling 13 children as part of a nationwide network of baby trafficking. This is one incidence of a much larger phenomenon of child trafficking in China which is orchestrated by gangs made up of mid-wives, doctors and nurses, and driven in large part by China's one-child policy, which results in many families giving away newborn girls in favor of male heirs. |
