Long Abstract: Kosovo is currently a place of origin, destination and internal trafficking in girls and women for sexual exploitation. Whereas the existence of trafficking into Kosovo of foreign women and girls has been known since 1999, the existence of trafficking in Kosovar women and girls has only recently been fully acknowledged. The actors working in the field of counter trafficking in Kosovo agree that while the numbers of identified and assisted foreign victims of trafficking has decreased over the last two years, internal trafficking in Kosovar women and children has drastically increased and a high percentage of victims are girl children. Since the numbers of foreign women working in Kosovo has remained constant, this has led to some questioning about the efficiency of the current identification strategies.
