Long Abstract: The International Organization for Migration (IOM) is undertaking a study of the growing problem of trafficking in Sri Lanka. In recent years, Sri Lanka has become an increasingly popular country for traffickers of human beings who transport people into, out of and through the country leaving thousands of people vulnerable to exploitation, states an IOM press release. Since opening its office in Sri Lanka in 2002, IOM has been working to reduce the numbers of trafficked victims through a variety of different programmes, including strengthening the capacity of the Department of Immigration and Emigration and through a public awareness programme promoting safe migration.
